On Saturday 14 October 2017 at 2:00pm at Nottingham Mechanics, Prof. Marek Korczynski will give a talk entitled ‘Voice at Work’. The talk will follow on from the Annual General Meeting of the N&DLHS which will commence at 1:15pm (Doors open at 1:00pm)
Professor Marek previously held positions at the University of New South Wales, Australia, and at Loughborough University. He joined the University of Nottingham in 2012. Professor Marek’s research interests include: The sociology of interactive service work: emotional labour; control; resistance; customer-worker relations; participation; collective organisation of workers; gender; theorising service work; consumption within service interactions. He is Co-Investigator of the ESRC Seminar Series: Migrants, Workplace and Community: Learning from Innovation in Civil Society. Other research interests include: Trade unions and industrial relations; Ethnography and fsQCA in the sociology of work. Music and work.
The Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Labour History Society is an organisation of members who have an interest in working class history, and the history of the labour movement in these two counties. Meetings are held at least four times a year. Recent meetings have taken place in Nottingham, Chesterfield and Selston with speakers on a variety of subjects.
