As part of the programme for Libraries Week on Thursday 12 October 2017 we are having a day of local history talks to Celebrate Local History at Nottingham Central Library, Floor 1, 10am to 7pm.

10am to 12pm: Meet the Nottingham Castle Transformation project team. Come along and find out about the exciting developments at Nottingham Castle and the research looking at demonstrations and protests in Nottingham both historical and contemporary. If you have photos or first-hand accounts of any local demonstrations you may have witnessed or been involved in we would love to hear from you. Please come along and share your knowledge!

2pm-3pm: Byron and Newstead. Byron was one of the most famous men in Europe in the early 19th century. A gifted and unrivalled poet, he is revered as a great scholar, freedom fighter, traveller and athlete. Simon Brown, Curator of Collections at Newstead Abbey will speak about Byron’s time at Newstead, and the development of a new gallery on the subject, due to open at Newstead in March 2018.

3:30pm to 4pm Robin Hood Storytelling. Join our special guest Robin Hood who will regale us with tales of heroic adventure.

6pm-7pm The Lord of Milan: Calling all adventure lovers! Join author Novelist Robert Nieri tells the remarkable true story of Herbert Kilpin and his journey from Butchers Son
