Christopher Weir was a Principal Archivist (Public Services) at Nottinghamshire Archives and is now a freelance Heritage Consultant based in Nottingham. His publications include ’Nottingham:A History’, the ‘Nottinghamshire Heritage’and ‘Village &Town Bands’.  He has self-published The Walker’s A-Z’.

One of his specialist areas is business history and he has written ’Jesse Boot of Nottingham’ for the Boots Company and ‘Wilkinson:The Story of the People’s Store, 1930-2005’ for the Wilkinson Company.

Chris has led and managed a wide range of community and outreach projects. He worked with a group of home educated young people to establish an Olympiad Journals project to record and research parks and open spaces in Nottingham. This project won a County Heritage award. He secured a grant with the Archives to establish the ‘Pat Wakefield’ project for a group of young people to catalogue a major collection of World War One information on soldiers’ memorials and develop outreach work related to the war and its impact on individuals and communities. Other projects have been in support of work on George Africanus, Nottingham’s first black businessman, the lace and hosiery heritage and a diverse range of community activities.

He has lectured on outreach work at conferences, put on exhibitions and led workshops on everything from writing with quill pens to interpreting old title deeds!

Chris also co-organises Make History Happen! an annual youth heritage conference that aims to offer creative opportunities for young people to engage with heritage and showcase their skills, talents and projects.

As well as his diverse range of talks Chris can provide workshops and other outreach activities on many individual topics, given sufficient notice. He can also lead walks incorporating historical and landscape features based on his knowledge of archives and local history
