On 1st July 1918, a huge explosion ripped through the National Shell Filling Factory at Chilwell, killing 134 workers and injuring twice as many more.
On Sunday 1st July 2018 there will be a procession from Chetwynd Barracks, Chilwell to the site of the mass grave in St Mary’s churchyard, Attenborough followed by a special Commemoration Service in St Mary’s Church with a silence at 7.10pm, the time of the explosion.
