The next WHO meeting is on Tuesday 19th June 2018 and is called Death and Remembrance in the Wolds 1400-1800. Part field-trip and part talk, it will be led by two WHO members – Professor Elizabeth and Dr Martin Tingle – who will show how burial and memorials have changed in the Wolds from the Middle Ages onwards. They will begin with a short talk on church archaeology and then lead a tour of the monuments of Willoughby church. Willoughby has one of the finest set of medieval carved tombs in the region and also memorials from the English Civil War, eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
This meeting will start earlier than usual! Meet 7.00 p.m. at Willoughby church; cars must be parked in the main street and walk up past the junior school to the church.
