Event Navigation

On Saturday 22nd July 2017 at Studio 1 in Nottingham Castle commencing at 2:00pm Suella Postles will give a talk on George Africanus. In 1766, aged just three, George John Scipio Africanus was taken from what is now Sierra Leone and forced into slavery but by the time he died, almost 70 years later, he owned his own business, was a rent collecting landlord, had the right to vote and helped keep the peace in Nottingham.

Friends of Nottingham Museums was established in 1977, and now celebrating its fortieth year, to provide support to the City Council’s museums and galleries in raising funds to help purchase new items for the collections, assist in volunteer projects and work at events.

There is a regular programme of talks, visits to galleries and historic sites and all members receive a quarterly newsletter.

Non-members are welcome at meetings on payment of an additional charge of £2 (normal entry charge to The Castle applies) and also on our outings
