Join speaker Danny Wells for ‘The life and times of Marie Lloyd and the Music Hall’ – Wednesday 23 November at CVS, 7 Mansfield Road, NG1 3FB (opposite House of Fraser).
12-1pm, followed by refreshments.
In this talk celebrating England’s rambunctious Victorian and Edwardian music hall tradition we’ll discover Champagne Charlie, Little Tich, the coster comedian Gus Ellen, Vesta Tilley, and more. But speaker Danny Wells will focus on uncovering the personal and professional story of Marie Lloyd, ‘Queen of the music hall’ and of the double entendre, suffragist, trade unionist and first president of the Ladies Music Hall Guild, whose songs brought alive the misfortunes of working-class female life.
This is an open event and everyone is welcome.
There’s no charge, and no need to book – just come along.
