Martinmas Fair will take place on the 31st October 2015 from 10.00 onwards at Priory Park and Priory Church, Lenton. There will be archaeological tours, graveyard tours, local history displays, re-enactment , Medieval music, hawking, children’s activities as well as a market in this second recreation of Lenton Priory’s Mediveal Fair at Martinmas.
The Martinmas fair was originally run for 8 days in Nottingham and people came from all over Europe to trade and meet. This year we not only have all kinds of history for you to enjoy, from exhibitions on the Priory to graveyard tours, as well as sword fighting, archery, woodcutting and spinning, we will also be having Medieval music and wandering minstrels. The kids can have fun building a castle with our play workers to create the hugest den in Nottingham, they can also create a shield to take home or enter our fancy dress competition with some great prizes to be had, such as a family ticket for the Savoy cinema to see a film of your choice or a day pass for the Nottingham Castle where Robin Hood is sometimes to be found waiting for the Sheriff of Nottingham to appear. For grown-ups we have the Medieval markets selling arts, crafts, food, fine wine and sweetmeats you can also dip into the archeology of Lenton Priory. For fans of Robin Hood, come along and see if our favourite outlaw will be imprisoned or will the Sheriff of Nottingham pardon him? Come along and find out! Please make sure you stay for our grand finale with Fire Spinning, breathing and amazing performances. There will also be a wide variety of refreshments available.
The Fair will take place at The Priory Church of St Anthony, on Gregory Street, Lenton (opposite The White Hart pub) and is accessible by car, bus and by tram. Nearest tram stop is Gregory Street.
