Presented by Brian Lund of Reflections of a Bygone Age.
On Saturday 1st November 2014 we’re holding a Postcard Fair (with cigarette & trade cards, books & ephemera) at Newark Showground’s Lady Eastwood Pavilion NG24 2NY. Old picture postcards are a fascinating history resource, both in terms of local views and important events – the First World War being a prime example.
We have published a series of booklets featuring picture postcards of the First World War. Each is 40pp softback, with c.70 illustrations, captions, introduction and comment. Titles are Patriotism, Joining Up, Faces of War, Northumbria at War, A Tale of Two Soldiers, Propaganda, Women at war and Sentiment, Songs & Silks. Each book is £4.95, and they are available at local bookshops and museums, or direct from us, Reflections of a Bygone Age (postage £1.40 per order), at:
