14 September , 2:00 pm 3:30 pm

On Tuesday 14th September 2021 at 2:00pm at The Bookcase Presents (the new events space behind the bookshop). John Lucas is a poet, novelist and owner of Shoestring Press. In his latest book – Closing Time At The Royal Oak – he describes the years of frequenting his local pub in Beeston with all the characters he met along the way, and chronicles the story of the pub’s decline and fall as a moment in English social history. Chris Arnot was, for 30 years, a freelance journalist, writing for broadsheet newspapers on all kinds of subjects. His new book – Closing Time – is subtitled Lockdown Reflections on a “Pubscrawling” Past. He talks about ale-houses from Devon to Edinburgh with chapters on “locals” from his days in Birmingham and London, Nottingham and Coventry. Not forgetting pubs close to cricket grounds, including Trent Bridge. Closing Time is his 13th book.
