Stage 4 of Sherwood Forest on your Doorstep takes place on Saturday, 14th May 2016 from Bestwood Winding Engine House to Linby. The walk, led by Poet and Wordsmith, Dave Wood, follows the 1662 Perambulations of Sherwood Forest. FREE event all welcome – further details from Sian Stammers at firstname.lastname@example.org or check out the Sherwood Forest on your Doorstep Facebook page.
We’re meeting 10.30am at the Engine Winding House in Bestwood Village. The volunteers (former miners with expert knowledge of the pit) will start up the Victorian engine, give a guided tour and heritage talk. Sound artist Rebecca Lee will be recording the sounds and stories.
We’ll then stop off at the Dynamo Cafe (about 12) for tea and cake, then begin the walk about 12.30.
Along the route we’ll be going into Moor Pond Woods, a beautiful conservation area maintained by Friends of Moor Pond Woods. It is an important haven for wildlife, but also for it’s archaeology. The area has played a crucial part in Nottinghamshire’s industrial history. Heritage researcher Stephen Walker will accompany to talk through these historical layers, stories and legends.
