The dying days of the old asylums, Anne Goodwin, The Bookcase Presents

12.10.2021 , 2:00 pm 3:30 pm

On Tuesday 12th October 2021 at 2:00pm at The Bookcase Presents (the new events space behind the bookshop). The Victorian asylums like Mapperley and Saxondale were designed to protect vulnerable people but soon descended into the indignities of batch bathing, communal clothing and tea served with the milk and sugar already added to the pot. Nottinghamshire author Anne Goodwin, a former clinical psychologist, discusses her humorous and heart-breaking novel, Matilda Windsor Is Coming Home, in the context of asylum history and the ‘delusions’ that help us heal.

Tickets will be on sale from Tuesday 31st August over the counter at The Bookcase or on the Box Office line 0115 966 3219.
Please note that there are limited numbers for some of these so please book early!
