The Nottingham Castle Project, Dr Richard Gaunt, Beeston and District Civic Society
08.09.2021 , 7:30 pm

A FREE joint talk with Beeston Local History Society in Chilwell Road Methodist Church, Beeston on Wednesday 8th September 7:30pm.
Dr Richard Gaunt is Associate Professor of History at the University of Nottingham, and Chairman of the Thoroton Society of Nottinghamshire. He was seconded from the University to the Castle for the duration of the HLF-funded renovations, with a particular role as Keeper of Rebellion. In this talk he will explain how the Castle project came about, and the decision to place an emphasis on rebellion (including Robin Hood and the Luddites) which led directly to his appointment because of his interests in the politics of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
Beeston Civic Society says:
“This talk is taking place in the main body of Chilwell Road Methodist Church as this is big enough for people to maintain social distancing if they wish. Masks are optional but we would ask people not to attend if they have any symptoms of Covid. Doors will be open from 7pm and the talk will start at 7.30 The Indigo and the 36 buses stop outside the Church and it is only a short walk from the tram stop at the interchange. There is also a public car park next to the Church.”
