Join us the day the clocks go forward this March and discover more about clocks, watches and timepieces that have inspired generations of popular stories, songs and poetry.
In celebration of Mother’s Day, which falls on the same day , we’ll be taking a look at a range of time inspired magical tales, mysterious wonders, traditional nursery rhymes and childhood favourites – many of which we all know and love. The event will reveal some of literature’s hidden histories , inspirations, and links with timekeeping , showcased alongside a fascinating array of clocks, watches and timepieces from the museum’s collection – bringing popular writings to life.
Visitors can discover more about the Museum’s fascinating collections of antique and contemporary clocks and watches . Also, explore the secrets hidden inside a selection of the museum’s ticking treasures , with live clock and watch-making demonstrations taking place throughout the day. There will be hands – on activities for the whole family including a ‘Hickory Dickory Dock’ mouse trail, craft activities , and the opportunity to test your knowledge in our famous literary clocks quiz!
Visitors can also browse a selection of book, craft , and clock and watch inspired stalls, and try delicious homemade treats courtesy of the Vintage ‘ pop – up ’ Clock House Café – perfect for Mother’s Day. You’re sure to find something to get your imagination ticking !
