24 February, 7:30 pm

Event Navigation

On Monday 24th February 2020 at the Community Space in Lambley Church (not Lowdham WI Hall as previously advertised), starting at 7.30pm, Ted White will talk about the burial place of Francis, Viscount Lovell.

Francis Lovell, 9th Baron Lovell, 6th Baron Holand, later 1st Viscount Lovell  was an English nobleman and an ally of Richard III. Along with Sir William Catesby and Sir Richard Ratcliffe they were known as “the Cat, the Rat and Lovell our dog” in an anti-Ricardian squib. In addition to being an ally, Lovell is attributed as Richard’s best friend.

Lovell continued the Yorkist resistance into the early years of Henry VIII’s reign, but his fate is unknown after he disappeared following the final defeat of the Yorkists at the Battle of Stoke Field in 1487.
