Wednesday 28 June 4.30pm meet in Christine’s Community Cafe at Woodthorpe House for a short introductory talk, but you may wish to meet earlier to buy refreshments and to have time to view the exhibition about the History of Woodthorpe House.
Christine’s Community Café is open from 8.30am to 4.30pm on weekdays, where there is an exhibition about the history of the building, its previous occupants and the architecture.
Partially hidden behind Sherwood Community Centre ’ s 20th century extensions, is the oldest house in Sherwood, Woodthorpe House which dates back to the mid – 18th Century or earlier and which has beautiful architectural features and an interesting history, having gone from being a small cottage, to a nine – bedroomed mansion , which later became WWII Army HQ, then a school annex. For 67 years, it has been known as Sherwood Community Centre. There is no charge for the guided tour, but as Sherwood Community Centre is run by a charity, donations towards refurbishments are appreciated.
