Partially hidden behind Sherwood Community Centre ’ s 20th century extensions, is the oldest house in Sherwood, Woodthorpe House which dates back to the mid – 18th Century or earlier and which has beautiful architectural features and an interesting history, having gone from being a small cottage, to a nine – bedroomed mansion , which later became WWII Army HQ, then a school annex. For 67 years, it has been known as Sherwood Community Centre. There is no charge for the guided tour, but as Sherwood Community Centre is run by a charity, donations towards refurbishments are appreciated.
