Hurt’s Shawl Factory, Chilwell High Road

This is a great chance to see a wonderful collection of both historic and ultra-modern knitting machines in action, as our visit takes place during the working day. G Hurt and Son are opening their doors especially for NLHA and their guests, with a guided tour of their factory on Chilwell High Road and the chance to visit their small factory shop afterwards. They are world famous makers of the finest hand finished, knitted lace scarves and shawls.

G H Hurt & Son have been making fine lace knitwear since 1912 in ‘The Shawl Factory’ using techniques dating back to the 16th century. Thier collection of ‘must sese’ vintage handframes, originally designed by Rev, William Lee in 1589, can be seen alongside 21st century knitting machines.
